About us

Bogdan Onisimowicz Male Chamber EnsembleThe Ensemble made its debut in 2008 on the occasion of the opening exhibition devoted to the Supraśl Irmologion 1598-1601. During the exhibition the 16th century melodies of Suprasl Orthodox Monastery were presented by the Ensemble. The mentioned melodies have been performed for the first time for 400 years. The name of the choir refers to the author of the manuscript, Bogdan Onisimowicz. The idea of the name emphasizes strong attachment to the Monastery’s tradition. The Ensemble’s aim is the reconstruction of the 16th century liturgical songs of the Suprasl Monastery.about  The Ensemble‘s repertoire includes also Byzantine chant and early Old Ruthenium Polyphony. The members of the choir are people of different professions integrated in passion for Orthodox music and tradition of the Monastery of the Annunciation in Suprasl. The Ensemble’s performances are mostly followed by a number of awards.  Bogdan Onisimowicz Male Chamber Ensemble became a laureate of International Festival “Hajnówka’s Orthodox Church Music Days” in 2009 and 2011. The choir is also a regular participant at all significant domestic festivals, for example: Ostrow Wielkopolski, Poznan, Lublin, Tomaszow Lubelski, where met with great interest and respect. In 2010 the Ensemble recorded a CD entitled “Irmologion Supraski 1598-1601”. The recorded compositions were entirety deciphered and compiled by the conductor, Marcin Abijski.
